In our latest members video, we follow Kevin to Skukuza Camp in the Kruger National Park, where The Kevin Richardson Foundation has helped fund a hyena research project in conjunction with the University of Pretoria. Kevin, along with videographer Willem van Heerden, headed to the park to work with SANParks Senior Vet Dr. Peter Buss and Professor Annette Roug and film the activity being undertaken for the hyena research project. Hyena are often anaesthetised for management and conservation purposes and the current drugs used are becoming more difficult to obtain, so new and safe alternatives need to be found. This hyena anaesthesia research project, being completed by researchers from the Centre for Veterinary Wildlife Research - University of Pretoria, in collaboration with SANPark's Veterinary Wildlife Service and the Kevin Richardson Foundation, is aimed at finding new safe anaesthetic drug combinations for hyenas. Here is a chance to see how your membership helps animals in the wild. This is a fabulous opportunity to have a front row seat to this amazing activity. We’d like to express our thanks to @SANparks (https://www.sanparks.org) for the Innovation in conjunction with the @Kevin Richardson Foundation on conservation.
