Solbyras - Yula (Official Music Video)

Music video for ‘Yula’. Directed by Nuri Çorbacıoğlu. ‘Yula’ is the name of a Turkic Yenisei Kyrgyz warrior who lived in early medieval Siberia. The name means candle/torch and signifies the twin soul of living beings that can travel independently of the body to the upper, middle, and lower worlds in Turkic Shamanism. The song "Yula" is a modern composition of a runic inscription set to music by Nükhet Okutan Davletov. Both the song and video draw inspiration from this circa 1,500-year-old rune stone erected in memory of Yula the warrior in Turkic Siberia and tell the story of how heroically he lived and died and how precious life is according to Shamanism. There is no historical evidence that the original runestone inscriptions were ever sung; however, some scholars suggest that Old Turkic epitaphs were actually rhythmic laments.
