On top of Balkan mountain you can find spectacular view, green grasslands and pure water. This is the windiest place in the country but that doesn't bother Bulgarian Brown cattle. The Bulgarian Brown cattle breed, made by crossing Bulgarian Gray cows with Brown Swiss bulls is medium sized breed with better charachteristics than the primitive Gray cattle. Hair coat is gray-brown, from lighter to darker grayish brown with light stripe on the backbone.
Muzzle is dark, surrounded by white ring. Mucous membranes are pink with dark stripe in the middle. Horns are black-tipped, medium long, pointing straight and up. Hooves are black and strong. Bulgarian Brown is a dualpurpose breed for milk and meat. The milk is very suitable for cheese production. The breed possess good adaptability to the local conditions and good utilization of rough forages. The calves are gray-white at birth, gray-black at 2-3 months age and become gray-brown later.
