Bulgarian Muslim (Pomak) traditional songs backed by 2-string tambura. Recorded June 16, 2019 in Breznitsa, BG. Ismail Zaim-Dingalaka, the singer, passed away October 27, 2019. Ismail's nephew, Salih Bukovyan is the second singer and tambura player. Ismail's wife Alife is in the background. Ismail guarded a rich treasure of folklore and transmitted it to his nephew and many others. I am grateful to Martha Forsyth for introducing me to Salih, and to Salih for his generous friendship. Alife sang beautifully in some of Martha's recordings but no longer sings. Salih has a Youtube channel with more songs and some dances from this area: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu7NaCXzMh4GkjvGRgIZ78A Martha blogs about Bulgarian village singing and her travels in search of these songs http://martha.forsyths.org/
