In the first week of May, Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin announced that his private military company plans to leave the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut. The official reason: lack of ammunition. After a lot of insults directed towars the higher command, he then decided to remain. But then on the 11th of May, after a successful counterattack by Ukrainian forces and the subsequent retreat of Russian forces from several positions around Bakhmut, he wrote an open letter, inviting Defense Minister Shoigu to come and assess the situation himself, again creating tension between him and the Russian Armed Forces.
